On Saturday 14 August 2010, MMG Sepon commemorated the signing of its major logistics contract with Lao Freight Forwarder. The contract covers all of the transportation needs of the project, including copper and materials used at the mine in Vilabouly District.

The contract demonstrates that MMG Sepon is strongly committed to promoting local business and capacity building within Laos by promoting down stream business and services. The logistics contract is one of the most important contracts for the operation. The contract is critical to ensuring the site is able to operate and the project’s copper reaches its customers on time. Previously, the contract was held by an international company.

Lao Freight Forwarder is one of a number of local Lao companies supplying the mine. The project has also contracted with Lao Air, Electricite Du Lao (EDL), Lao State Fuel, Lao Guard Service, Meung Vang Development Corporation, Sirisin Crusher, Khounxay Pattana, and Manixay. These are all major Lao contractors who are developing the skills necessary to compete in the international mining industry. In addition, MMG Sepon also sources food and camp services from businesses in Savannakhet and around the country.

MMG Sepon also held an official handover ceremony of 8 tonnes of Sepon copper for the casting of King Anouvong’s statue in Vientiane. The copper donation was valued at over 400 million Lao Kip. The donation was made as a contribution to the 450th anniversary of the establishment of Vientiane Capital.

“MMG is excited by the prospect that copper produced in Laos will be used to cast the King Anouvong statue and we are proud to be able to help Vientiane celebrate its 450th Anniversary” said Richard Taylor, MMG Group Manager for Corporate Affairs Asia.

Attending the signing ceremony were H.E. Standing Deputy Prime Minister, Somsavat Lengsavad, H. E.
