MMG LXML Sepon raised awareness on road safety over the new year in Vilabouly District.
In cooperation with community, officials, and police, hundreds of people joined together to safely celebrate the beginning of 2015.
LXML distributed T-shirts and promotional material with the Lao slogan 'Drink + Drive = Accident'.
Every year hundreds of people are killed and injured as a result of traffic incidents.
This program extends previous LXML safety campaigns near Sepon mine in Savannakhet Province.
The familiar yellow MMG motorcycle helmets have been widely distributed in Laos.
Sepon regularly targets schools and community leaders to prevent accidents.
At MMG, our core value is "we think safety first". Employees are encouraged to take safety home to their families and communities. This program is one part of the company’s efforts to improve safety awareness in communities. The message is passed on through employees and their family.
"This community road safety campaign was focused on the New Year holidays, when road accidents were more likely to happen," said Mr Sisomphone Phanpadith, Supervisor Stakeholder Engagement. "We remind people to pay attention to traffic rules, drive slowly, and not drink-drive."
20 students trained by LXML volunteered to lead the campaign by demonstrating the importance of wearing motorcycle helmets correctly with the chin strap on.
