The copper operation is a whole of ore, atmospheric leach, Solvent Extraction and Electro-winning copper processing plant which is currently based on treatment of ore from the Khanong orebody.
The copper plant is designed to produce 60,000 tonnes of LME grade A copper cathodes per annum. The Sepon copper expansion that was expected to be completed in 2010 has been suspended and capital expenditure of approximately US$50 million (A$77 million) will be deferred until after 2009. (see announcement MMG to defer projects and cut operating costs).
The installation of a second autoclave, to increase copper recovery, process reliability and reduce production downtime, was commissioned in the second quarter of 2009.
