MMG is working to break long-standing gender barriers in mining by investing in women’s leadership, skills development and representation across our operations.
67% of women reporting they feel valued, supported and able to grow their careers at MMG.
At the 20th DRC Mining Week in Lubumbashi, MMG attended as a Platinum Sponsor with a 23-member delegation from Kinsevere, nearly half of whom were women. In a traditionally male-dominated industry, that visibility matters.
Mining has historically been perceived as a male-dominated sector, with cultural expectations, limited training opportunities and unconscious bias creating barriers for women’s participation. We are working to shift that by building an inclusive workplace where women feel supported, visible and able to progress into technical and leadership roles.
At Kinsevere, initiatives including the Women in Mining Forum, leadership programs, Lean-In circles and school and university outreach are creating more pathways for women to enter and advance in the industry. DRC Mining Week brought together global mining leaders, government representatives and development partners, and our team played an active role in those discussions, with the strong female representation in our delegation a practical demonstration of our commitment to diversity.
MMG has implemented a range of initiatives to support women’s participation and career development. We sponsor the Women in Mining DRC Forum, giving women a platform to share expertise and build professional networks, and we select employee representatives with growth potential or demonstrated leadership skills, with women making up half of those chosen.
We provide leadership and diversity training across the business to address unconscious bias and strengthen inclusive behaviours, and run Lean-In circles and peer support programs to build confidence and networks. School and university outreach aims to inspire girls and young women to pursue careers in mining and STEM, while partnerships with training organisations help accelerate development pathways into technical and leadership roles. Flexible work options and family support policies are also in place to help address work-life balance.
Our efforts at Kinsevere have delivered measurable results. Women now make up 15.9% of the workforce, including 7.5% in technical roles and 6.3% in leadership positions. In the H1 2025 People and Culture Survey, 67% of women reported feeling valued, supported and able to grow their careers at MMG. Women accounted for 33% of LinkedIn Learning completions, and growing awareness of unconscious bias has translated into stronger allyship and improved workplace inclusion.
Perhaps most importantly, the visibility of female role models across the business is encouraging more women to see mining as a viable and rewarding career.
