Over the past five years, our cumulative spend with suppliers in host communities grew from US$192 million in 2020 to US$632 million in 2025. Alongside procurement activity, our Business Strengthening Program supports small and medium enterprises to grow and compete.
Grupo AICOR grew their business from 2 to 15 clients with our support.
One example is Grupo AICOR, a female-led enterprise from Pisaccasa that manufactures uniforms and PPE near our Las Bambas mine. With our support, they improved administration, upskilled their workforce, invested in machinery and developed a new commercial partnership, growing from two clients to more than 15.
Founded in 2022 in Cotabambas Province, the same region as Las Bambas, AICOR operates in a male-dominated industry. Before joining the program, the company faced significant barriers: limited capital, a lack of trained personnel and insufficient technical capability to meet national production standards. They needed structured training, quality systems and commercial opportunities to scale sustainably.
Through the Business Strengthening Program, we provided AICOR with technical training to improve uniform production quality and worked with their team to strengthen operations and refine production processes. We invested in machinery that directly lifted quality standards and connected the company with six new customers through formal agreements. We also advised them on developing a product catalogue to make their range more accessible to new and existing buyers.
To support further growth, we guided AICOR through the tender and selection process with Exige Industrial, a large PPE supplier, opening the door to a significant new commercial relationship.
AICOR attributes 80% of their business achievements to participation in the MMG Business Strengthening Program, and 70% of their workforce was trained under it. In 2023, they signed a commercial contract with Exige Industrial for PPE manufacturinge and are now integrated into a national uniforms supply chain.
The quality improvements achieved through the program have enabled stable, recurring relationships with national and international clients, increasing income opportunities for the community of Pisaccasa. In November 2023, MMG recognised AICOR’s outstanding participation and leadership in the Las Bambas Entrepreneurship Enrichment Program.
AICOR’s story shows what structured support, clear quality standards and real commercial opportunity can do for a local enterprise with the ambition to grow.
