Preventative health and wellness program at Las Bambas

MMG’s Lima offices and Las Bambas site operate in remote, high-altitude environments that bring unique health challenges. In 2025, we delivered a Comprehensive Wellness and Preventive Health Program built around four campaigns: mental health, fatigue management, breast cancer prevention and prostate cancer prevention. More than 3,700 employees took part, including 245 PSA tests that led to two early cancer detections.

Working at high altitude brings real health and wellbeing risks: psychosocial pressures, fatigue and limited access to preventive services. These factors can heighten critical risks, particularly around mental health and early cancer detection.

To address this, MMG developed an integrated program focused on reducing health risk factors, promoting early diagnosis and supporting the emotional and physical wellbeing of our workforce. The goal was to build a culture where workers feel informed, supported and empowered to take care of their health.

We designed four health campaigns tailored to the realities of remote and high-altitude operations, each combining onsite interventions, specialist support and targeted communications.

Activate Your Mind (Mental Health) addressed psychosocial risks and reduced stigma around seeking help. It included 64 field interventions reaching 1,446 workers, three webinars, 16 radio interviews and practical tools like the SAYAY self-care card.

Don’t Let Fatigue Follow You (Fatigue Management) tackled fatigue as a critical operational risk through 27 onsite interventions with 992 workers, 22 radio interviews, 11 internal publications and anti-fatigue assessments. The period recorded zero fatigue-related incidents.

Pink Campaign (Breast Cancer Prevention) offered preventive health assessments across Lima and site locations, giving workers access to medical, psychological, nutritional, gynaecological and physiotherapy specialists. A total of 195 people attended, with four webinars extending reach further.

Blue Campaign (Prostate Cancer Prevention) reached 661 participants. We conducted 245 PSA tests, identified two positive cases early and referred both individuals to specialist care promptly.

The program achieved strong participation and meaningful health outcomes. More than 3,700 workers engaged across all campaigns, supported by 91 face-to-face interventions and 38 radio interviews. Early detection through the Blue Campaign meant two workers received timely care that could make a genuine difference to their lives. The mental health campaign reduced stigma around seeking support, and the fatigue campaign contributed to zero incidents during the period.

Across all four campaigns, workers gained access to multidisciplinary care and practical tools, reinforcing MMG’s commitment to a culture where health and wellbeing are taken seriously at every level of the organisation.
