Managing environmental impacts

Why this is a focus area

The natural environments we operate in are deeply connected to the identity, livelihoods and wellbeing of our host communities. At MMG, we understand our presence brings the responsibility to minimise impacts and the opportunity to restore landscapes, protect ecosystems and strengthen environmental resilience long after operations conclude.

This focus area brings together three material topics that guide our day-to-day environmental work: Nature, Responsible Water Consumption, and Tailings and Waste Management. Together, they reflect how we manage impacts across land, water and ecosystems, and how we maintain strong controls and governance for high-risk areas such as tailings and waste. Our approach is supported by site-specific plans, monitoring programs and a culture of environmental care that encourages people to identify issues early and act responsibly.

Transparent reporting and robust assurance help us stay accountable and continuously improve. Selected environmental metrics—including water use and waste volumes—are disclosed through our Sustainability Databook, alongside supporting context.

To explore performance, follow the data table tiles and links on this page. They provide the latest results and trends across water, nature-related indicators, and tailings/waste measures captured in our reporting.
