MMG Rosebery was pleased to welcome back a familiar face this week with former Deputy General Manager John Lamb returning to take up the General Manager’s chair.
John and his family returned to Rosebery following two years up north with MMG’s Century zinc mine in northern Queensland where John was General Manager of the mine, Australia’s largest zinc mine.
“It’s a real pleasure to be back at Rosebery and be a part of the West Coast and North West Coast Tasmanian community again,” said Mr Lamb.
“Rosebery mine is a great operation with a team committed to safety, health and environment and the local community.”
In addition to Rosebery mine John will be responsible for MMG’s Avebury mine in Zeehan, currently on care and maintenance.
“Mining is part of this region’s rich history and we look forward to being part of its future as we continue to grow our business in the coming years,” said John.
MMG recently announced the recommencement of a number of major projects at Rosebery including a $25 million program to create an additional ventilation shaft to deliver fresh air to the deepest reaches of the mine and a $1.6 million deep exploration drilling program to confirm the long-term viability of the mine. The drilling program commenced in October to target prospective areas below the lower parts of the Rosebery ore body.
Significant additional resources have been discovered at Rosebery over the last three years with the mine life now extending to the end of the next decade.
“We hope this drilling program will again boost the mine’s reserves and extend its life even further” said John.
John and Rosebery mine employees will be participating in the Rosebery Christmas Parade, an annual tradition, to be held at 11.00am on Sunday 13 December followed by the Wee Georgie Wood Christmas Carols at Tullah at 4.00pm.
