Century mine hosts Queensland Premier, Campbell Newman

MMG Limited’s Century mine was pleased to host the Premier of Queensland, Campbell Newman, at its Lawn Hill site yesterday.

Travelling as a guest of regional development organisation Gulf Savannah Development (GSD), the Premier was joined by his wife Lisa Newman, Burke Shire Council representatives, including Mayor Ernie Camp, and GSD Chief Executive Officer Rob McCallister.

MMG General Manager Queensland Operations Mark Adams said Century appreciated the opportunity to host the delegation.

“While only a short visit, it was a wonderful opportunity to introduce the Premier and his delegation to some of our more than 70 apprentices with links to Gulf communities.

“Several of our long-standing employees were also present to represent the more than 900 local and local Indigenous people who have worked at Century since operations began.

During a brief tour of the mine, the delegation was able to view Century’s mining operations and progressive rehabilitation at the mine.

The brief tour also provided an opportunity for Mark to update the delegation on Century’s ongoing work to fully investigate options to utilise Century’s infrastructure post-“big zinc”.
