MMG renews support for Monash Resources Engineering program for a further 5 years

Monash University and MMG Limited (MMG) are delighted to announce a five year extension of MMG’s support of the Monash Resources Engineering program.

The $170,000 commitment over five years was signed by MMG’s CEO Jerry Jiao and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Professor Elizabeth Croft.  This new agreement is an extension of MMG’s $3million donation from 2013-2017, which helped to establish the Resources Engineering program.

The agreement is a part of MMG’s commitment to growing a steady pipeline of talented resources engineering students in Australia.

The new funding will be used to provide scholarships to promising students, fund site visits to remote resource projects and support increased participation in AusIMM activities.

MMG will also continue to provide vacation work opportunities to students on the program.

At the signing of the agreement, Professor Croft thanked MMG for their ongoing support. “MMG has been a generous and long-standing supporter of Mining and Resources Engineering education in Australia. We are grateful to MMG for this new funding to support student scholarships, as well as the initial $3m of funding provided between 2013-2017 to support the establishment of what has become, one of the leading Resources Engineering programs in the country. MMG has displayed real leadership and a thoughtful long-term vision”.

In his speech, Mr Jiao said ‘MMG and the resources industry are moving into a period of significant growth. To manage this, we need more of the well-educated and well-trained graduates this program is producing. We hope to see many more Monash Mining Engineering students at our MMG sites including our mine in Rosebery in Tasmania or our new operation at Dugald River.”
