MMG Rosebery prepares to tame the Burnie Ten road race

MMG Rosebery mine employees, contractors and family members are preparing to participate in this year’s B&E Burnie Ten road race.

The 117 participants are currently participating in MMG Rosebery’s Tame the Ten training program which is being overseen by exercise physiologist Stephen Stone from the Healthy Business Performance Group.

The program forms one of the mine’s 2012 health and wellbeing initiatives which seeks to encourage as many MMG employees as possible to take up the challenge of attempting this year’s race.

“MMG is committed to a safe and healthy workforce, and therefore we encourage our employees to be both physically and mentally fit for work,” said MMG Rosebery General Manager Miles Naude.

“Being healthy and fit for work is not only beneficial to the individual’s wellbeing, but also plays an important role in safety management and injury prevention,” said Mr Naude.

“The Tame the Ten training program has provided a boost to our workforce’s fitness levels and also fostered a spirit of teamwork and motivation among participants,” he said.

The Tame the Ten training program comprises three comprehensive running program categories catering to various fitness levels. Each level specifies the type and number of recommended exercise activities to be completed over the eight-week training period. The program also covers race preparation topics such as hydration, core function, nutrition and injury management.

The 126 Tame the Ten participants represent the largest corporate contingent ever to participate in the Burnie Ten. The participation level also supports The Advocate and Burnie Sports and Events initiative ‘Project 5000’, which seeks to recruit over 5000 people to participate in the Burnie Ten.

The 10-kilometre road race will take place on 21 October 2012.
