MMG Golden Grove and Life Education WA Extend Partnership

MMG Golden Grove and Life Education WA (LEWA) today announced that they have extended their partnership – established in 2010 – for a further three years.

LEWA is a community-based, independent organisation at the front line of positive and preventative drug and health education, working with children and young people via school visits and delivering ongoing curriculum linked programs to help them make informed choices for a safe and healthy life.

MMG Golden Grove’s annual $10,000 sponsorship will support three regional schools in the Mid West Education District, giving them access to Life Education Sessions, which include school visits from the LEWA team, the mobile Life Education van and Healthy Harold the giraffe, LEWA’s loveable mascot.

The school visits will see LEWA deliver their leading drug and health education program on an annual basis, as well as attending Yalgoo Primary’s annual athletics carnival, which will also involve several other schools from the region. They will also work to link in with the Yalgoo Indigenous Children’s Program (ICP), which is delivered by Centacare and also supported by MMG Golden Grove.

LEWA Executive Officer, Bernie Foley said it is sponsorship from companies such as MMG Golden Grove that make the delivery of LEWA’s programs possible.

“We are committed to helping young people make informed decisions about drugs and their health, but without funding some regional schools in WA may never experience the benefits of our specialist educators developing programs and supporting schools in the provision of best-practice drug education in the classroom,” Mr Foley said.

MMG Golden Grove General Manager, Pierre Malan said that it was a very important that LEWA’s program continues in the Yalgoo and Mid West region, and that MMG Golden Grove was proud to sponsor the program for a further three years.

“Health and safety is a core value at MMG Golden Grove, and education plays an important role in encouraging behavioural change on site. Therefore we understand that schools play such a vital role in preparing children for their journey through life and the more equipped they are to make positive healthy choices later in life, the better,” Mr Malan said.

“We aim to enter into mutually beneficial partnerships with stakeholders in appropriate community development programs that are underpinned by our company’s corporate values of safety, integrity, action, and results – there is no question that LEWA and its drug and health education program fit the bill, and we are proud to be in association with them.”
